Samui Trail 2026: Race Dates, Distances and Start Times

Samui Trail returns to Koh Samui on 7–8 November 2026, bringing runners onto the island’s inland trails for a weekend of off-road racing. With distances ranging from 7 km to a 55 km ultra, the event offers options for shorter-distance runners as well as those looking for a more demanding challenge.

The race is associated with the 4KINGs Plus Southern Thailand Trail Series and is organised by Samui Trail Plus.

Samui Trail 2026 Race distances and start times

The event is scheduled across Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, with the longest distance starting on Saturday evening.

    DistanceStart dateStart time
    7 kmSaturday, 7 November4:00 pm
    55 kmSaturday, 7 November6:00 pm
    25 kmSunday, 8 November4:00 am
    15 kmSunday, 8 November6:00 am

The start venue is Ban Laem Hoi School in Ban Tai, Koh Samui. Runners should check the organiser’s latest briefing for final arrangements and any schedule changes.

    Running Koh Samui’s inland trails

Unlike road races around the island, Samui Trail takes participants into the hills and tropical forest, with uneven terrain, climbs and scenic views along the way. The 55 km course is the major endurance challenge, while the 7 km, 15 km and 25 km distances provide shorter alternatives.

Trail running requires more preparation than simply turning up in running shoes. The organiser’s published equipment guidance includes a hydration pack with at least 1.5 litres of capacity and a reusable cup. Headlamps and additional safety equipment are required for some distances, so participants should check the complete requirements for their chosen race before setting off.

Samui Trail 2026 Registration and latest information

With race weekend approaching, check directly with the organisers for the latest event status, registration availability and race-day instructions. Online listings may not reflect the most recent changes, and published entry prices do not necessarily mean places are still available.

  • 10 Koh Samui Hotels in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide

10 Koh Samui Hotels in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide

Ten hotels on Koh Samui have earned a place in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide hotel selection, with four awarded Two MICHELIN Keys and another six receiving One Key.

Announced in September, the latest selection recognises hotels that offer something special beyond a place to sleep. The MICHELIN Guide assesses the overall guest experience, considering factors including architecture and design, service, individuality, value and the connection between a hotel and its surroundings.

The distinctions are separate from MICHELIN Stars, which recognise restaurants. For travellers planning a stay on Samui, the hotel selection provides another way to discover some of the island’s most distinctive places to stay.

Two MICHELIN Keys: Four exceptional stays

The Guide’s Two-Key distinction recognises hotels offering an exceptional stay. Four Samui properties made this category in 2026.

    Banyan Tree Samui

Set on a hillside above Lamai Bay, Banyan Tree Samui is an all-pool-villa resort tucked into a secluded private bay. Its combination of tropical greenery, ocean views, private beach access and personalised service makes seclusion a central part of the experience.

    Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui

Located on the island’s north-western coast, Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui received its first MICHELIN Key distinction in 2026, earning Two Keys. Villas and residences sit among coconut palms on a steep tropical hillside, with views across the Gulf of Thailand. Dining, wellness and water-based activities form part of the wider resort experience.

    Samujana Villas

Samujana takes a private-villa approach to luxury accommodation. Its collection of 23 contemporary villas occupies a hillside on the north-eastern coast, with properties ranging from three to eight bedrooms. Private infinity pools, generous living spaces and sea views make it particularly suited to families, groups and guests who want more privacy than a conventional hotel provides.

    Six Senses Samui

Occupying a secluded headland near the island’s northern tip, Six Senses Samui combines individual villas with natural landscaping, spa facilities and a strong emphasis on wellbeing. Many villas have private pools, while the resort also offers dining experiences, including the distinctive Dining on the Rocks.

One MICHELIN Key: Six more hotels to know

One Key recognises a very special stay. The six Samui properties in this category offer a varied selection of settings and accommodation styles.

    Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort

At the northern end of Chaweng Beach, Anantara Lawana combines beachfront resort facilities with design influenced by Samui’s Sino-Thai heritage. Highlights include ocean-facing dining, the Singing Bird Lounge and Tree Tops, a treetop dining experience.

    Cape Fahn Hotel

Cape Fahn occupies a small private island just off the coast near Choeng Mon. Its pool villas, secluded setting and views across the sea offer a different experience from staying directly on one of Samui’s main beaches.

    Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui

Set around a private bay in the north-east of the island, Garrya Tongsai Bay is surrounded by extensive tropical greenery. Accommodation includes suites and sea-view villas, some with private pools, with the resort’s secluded beach and natural setting central to its appeal.

    Kerem Luxury Beachfront Villas

Kerem is a smaller-scale option in the Plai Laem area, comprising four luxury villas. Each has three bedrooms, a private pool and generous living space, making the property particularly relevant to families or groups looking for a private villa with hotel-style services.

    Kimpton Kitalay Samui

On Choeng Mon Beach, Kimpton Kitalay brings a contemporary, village-inspired style to a beachfront resort. It has rooms, suites and villas, several restaurants and bars, a spa and a large swimming pool, with an emphasis on relaxed beachside living.

    SALA Samui Choengmon Beach Resort

Also located at Choeng Mon, SALA Samui combines contemporary design with tropical surroundings and beachfront accommodation. Private-pool options, garden settings and direct access to the beach give it a different atmosphere from the larger, more activity-focused resorts.

What the MICHELIN Keys mean for visitors

The 2026 selection highlights the range of high-end accommodation available on Samui, from secluded private-island and hillside retreats to beachfront resorts and multi-bedroom villas.

It is not a ranking of every hotel on the island, nor does a Key guarantee that a property will suit every traveller or budget. Instead, the distinctions reflect the MICHELIN Guide inspectors’ assessment of the overall experience.

For anyone planning a special stay, the list is a useful starting point for comparing different parts of the island and styles of accommodation. The full selection and individual hotel profiles are available through the MICHELIN Guide’s 2026 Thailand hotel list.

  • Conrad Koh Samui Opens The Pearl, a New Private Wellness Villa

Conrad Koh Samui Opens The Pearl, a New Private Wellness Villa

    Photo: © 2026 Hilton

Conrad Koh Samui has opened The Pearl, a new 766-square-metre Presidential Villa designed around privacy, wellness and in-villa experiences.

The two-level villa welcomed its first guests on October 1, 2026, adding a new top-tier accommodation option to the resort at Taling Ngam on Koh Samui’s south-west coast. Conrad describes The Pearl as its most exclusive accommodation.

A villa designed around private wellness

The Pearl is located at the highest point of Conrad Koh Samui, with views across the Gulf of Thailand towards the Five Islands.

The upper level is primarily designed for entertaining, with a large terrace, open-plan living room, private bar and dedicated catering kitchen for chef-led dining.

Downstairs, the master suite has sea views, a walk-in wardrobe and a marble bathroom with a rain shower and private jacuzzi. Next to the bedroom is a dedicated wellness area containing a couple’s treatment suite, sauna, steam rooms, hot and cold hydrotherapy plunge pools and a fitness space.

That makes the wellness facilities one of the more distinctive features of The Pearl. Rather than relying solely on the resort’s main spa and fitness facilities, guests staying in the villa can access treatment, exercise and hydrotherapy facilities within their own accommodation.

    20-metre pool and private cinema

Outside, the villa has a 20-metre infinity pool overlooking the coastline, along with sun loungers, a sunken dining pavilion and a private outdoor cinema.

The villa is also designed for private dining, with a catering kitchen and chef-led experiences available. A dedicated Resort Host is included as part of the service offering.

The result is a very self-contained accommodation option, with much of the experience — from dining and swimming to wellness and evening entertainment — able to take place without leaving the villa.

    Thai-inspired design

The interior design combines natural stone and warm timber with contemporary details inspired by Koh Samui and Thai craftsmanship.

A sculptural feature wall influenced by traditional Thai timber construction is a central design element, while large openings connect the indoor living spaces with the outdoor terraces and sea views.

The Pearl is a one-bedroom villa, making it particularly geared towards couples or guests looking for a highly private stay rather than a conventional multi-bedroom group villa.

The Pearl at Conrad Koh Samui

The Pearl is now accepting enquiries and reservations through Conrad Koh Samui. No public nightly rate is currently listed, with guests directed to contact the resort for availability and pricing.

Conrad Koh Samui is an all-villa resort in Taling Ngam, with 82 stand-alone pool villas overlooking the Gulf of Thailand.

The Pearl welcomed its first guests on October 1, 2026.

  • YOKKAO Opens New Flagship Store on Koh Samui

YOKKAO Opens New Flagship Store on Koh Samui

YOKKAO, one of Thailand’s best-known Muay Thai equipment and lifestyle brands, has officially opened its newest flagship store on Koh Samui.

The new store is YOKKAO’s first location on Samui, adding the island to its growing network of stores in Thailand. It offers the brand’s range of Muay Thai and combat-sports equipment, along with YOKKAO clothing and other apparel.

The brand has also announced that an exclusive Koh Samui Collection is coming soon.

A natural fit for Samui’s Muay Thai scene

The opening makes particular sense on an island that has developed a substantial Muay Thai training scene.

Samui is home to a number of established Muay Thai gyms and training camps, attracting visitors who come specifically to train as well as holidaymakers looking to spend some time learning the sport.

For those staying on the island for a few weeks or longer, having a dedicated YOKKAO store provides another local option for buying gloves, training equipment, shorts, apparel and other fight gear.

It also adds another recognisable international Muay Thai brand to Samui’s sports and fitness scene.

YOKKAO has built a strong reputation internationally for its Muay Thai equipment and apparel, and its expansion to Samui reflects the island’s position as a destination for the growing number of visitors combining travel with combat-sports training.

For visitors already planning to train while they’re here, the new store is a useful addition. For everyone else, it’s another indication of just how established Muay Thai has become as part of the Samui experience.

The YOKKAO Koh Samui store is now open. The Koh Samui Collection is expected to follow soon.

  • The Koh Samui Club Scene Is Getting More Serious

The Koh Samui Club Scene Is Getting More Serious

Samui has never been short of nightlife, but there are signs that the Koh Samui club scene is becoming increasingly serious – particularly when it comes to electronic music and international DJs.

The biggest recent sign came in April, when CLUB SEEN Koh Samui entered DJ Mag’s Top 100 Clubs 2026 at No. 52. It was a new entry and the only Samui venue to make this year’s list, putting a relatively small island destination alongside established clubs from some of the world’s major nightlife cities.

The ranking wasn’t simply a result of the venue’s beach-club setting. Over the previous year, CLUB SEEN had hosted major international electronic-music names including ARTBAT and Nina Kraviz, as well as Defected and Glitterbox showcases. DJ Mag also reported on its ARTBAT and other DJ Mag-associated events at the venue.

And the programming hasn’t stopped with the ranking.

CLUB SEEN’s anniversary celebrations in August featured Australian duo NERVO, while its regular calendar continues through the current season with weekly electronic-music events. The venue has also announced that its coming season will feature an expanded international line-up.

    It’s not just CLUB SEEN

The interesting thing is that you don’t have to look very far to find other evidence of Samui’s increasingly developed DJ scene.

ARKbar, one of Chaweng’s long-established nightlife venues, continues to combine its beachfront parties with regular DJ programming. September has seen a succession of headline sets, including several appearances by Melbourne producer Spice, who has played major festivals including Tomorrowland, Ultra and EDC.

Elsewhere, new and existing venues are continuing to add music-led events to the island’s nightlife calendar. Brio Beach Club in Lamai, for example, held its grand opening on September 25 with DJs, live vocals, percussion, dancers and other entertainment.

That doesn’t mean every new beach club is suddenly a serious nightclub — most aren’t. But there is a growing range of options between the traditional Chaweng party scene, upscale beach clubs and venues concentrating more heavily on electronic music.

Samui has been doing this for a while

It’s also worth pointing out that this isn’t completely new.

Samui has a surprisingly long history of attracting internationally recognised DJs for an island of its size. Chi Beach Club’s own list of past guests includes names such as Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Sébastien Léger, Goldie and Nightmares On Wax, alongside events and brands including Defected.

Thai techno DJ Nakadia also began her career on Koh Samui more than two decades ago and has since gone on to perform at major international events and venues around the world.

So the current developments are less a case of Samui suddenly discovering club culture and more a continuation of something that has been developing on the island for years.

    What happens next?

CLUB SEEN’s DJ Mag ranking has certainly raised the profile of Samui’s electronic-music scene, but the more interesting question is what happens over the next season.

If the promised international line-ups materialise, and more venues continue investing in music rather than treating DJs simply as background entertainment, Samui could become an increasingly interesting destination for people who specifically follow electronic music.

For everyone else, it simply adds another dimension to the island’s already substantial nightlife scene.

Samui still has its beach bars, resort parties, Chaweng nightlife and the usual collection of sunset sessions and pool parties.

But increasingly, you can add international DJs and proper late-night electronic music to that list.

  • VIA Village: New Market and Entertainment Space Opens in Lamai

VIA Village: New Market and Entertainment Space Opens in Lamai

A new evening destination has opened in Lamai, giving visitors another place to eat, shop and spend a few hours after dark.

VIA Village is an open-air market and entertainment space in northern Lamai, bringing together small shops, food outlets, drinks, games and nightly entertainment in a compact village-style setting.

Rather than being a conventional shopping centre, VIA Village is made up of individual small businesses arranged along pedestrian walkways, with lighting and landscaping giving parts of the development a slightly boutique feel. There’s also a central seating and entertainment area where visitors can relax and watch the evening’s activities.

The mix includes food and drink outlets, fashion and lifestyle shops, games and family-oriented entertainment. Businesses seen at the market include Dragon Wok and Dick’s Burgers, while other spaces include lifestyle businesses such as Lulu Pilates.

It’s also the entertainment programme that helps set VIA Village apart from a traditional market.

    Evening entertainment at VIA Village

Entertainment is scheduled throughout the evening, with a small daily circus performance followed by live music and DJs.

    Daily schedule:

    • 6:00pm–7:00pm: Circus show
    • 7:00pm–9:00pm: Live music
    • 9:00pm–10:30pm: DJ

The central area provides seating around the entertainment space, making it possible to combine dinner or drinks with the evening programme rather than simply browsing the shops.

VIA Village is not particularly large, and it’s best thought of as a compact evening market and entertainment venue rather than a major shopping destination. Its more relaxed atmosphere and range of family-friendly activities may appeal to visitors looking for something different from Lamai’s main nightlife areas.

The market is located not far from Lamai Night Market, and is at 169/32 Moo 4, Maret, and currently open daily from 3:00pm to 11:00pm.

As it’s new, opening hours and entertainment timetables may change – check their social media (below) before heading out.

As a new addition to Lamai, VIA Village is still finding its feet, but it offers another option for visitors wanting to eat, browse some small local businesses and enjoy some entertainment in a relaxed open-air setting.
